Josh Weldin, MD
Dr. Weldin is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and one of the founding partners of Salish Pediatric Cardiology.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, I moved to Seattle at the age of four. I attended public school in Seattle and am a proud graduate of Garfield High School (Go Bulldogs). My parents were both educators and my undergraduate education was at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma where my dad was the Director of the Theatre Arts Program. I then went to medical school at the University of Washington and stayed at the UW/Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) for my pediatric residency and a year as chief resident. After residency, I worked for the emergency medicine/urgent care and pediatric hospitalist programs at SCH with my primary site of practice being at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland.
In 2008, I moved to Richland, Washington and was the director of the pediatric hospitalist program at Kadlec Regional Medical Center and the chief of the pediatric department before returning to Seattle in 2012 to do fellowship in pediatric cardiology. I then stayed at SCH as a proud general cardiologist where I have done a mixture of inpatient and outpatient pediatric cardiology for the past nine years. I was the director of our Regional Consult program which helped to support families in the region in conjunction with neonatologists, hospital based physicians, and primary care providers. My outpatient work has been centered in Everett where I was also the Medical Director of the SCH North Clinic. I deeply enjoy the diversity of outpatient cardiology and partnering with children and their families to help people feel heard, cared for, and that they have a partner in whatever journey we find ourselves on.
My career has been based on the belief that excellent pediatric specialty care is possible closer to where families live and much of that care does not require travelling to Seattle. Providing outstanding, collaborative care with a focus on improved access and continuity - closer to home - is at the center of why we started Salish Pediatric Cardiology. The other Josh and I are incredibly excited to serve the communities in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, and Island counties (and beyond) and look forward to seeing you in our new office in Arlington. We also deeply believe in equity and justice in healthcare and the rights of all children and their families to receive high quality healthcare. Access to care is an enormous part of health equity and we are proud to be part of expanding access to specialized care for kids in the region.
When I’m not working, I enjoy chasing around my family which consists of my Nurse partner, our three teenagers, and our two dogs - Stanley and Mabel. I love to cook, do home improvement/remodeling, and spend time at our cabin in Winthrop, Washington where we have small orchard and I recently fulfilled my dream of owning a tractor.
Josh Friedland-Little, MD
Dr. Friedland-Little is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and one of the founding partners of Salish Pediatric Cardiology.
Originally from Massachusetts, I first developed a love for the Pacific Northwest when I spent a year working in a research lab at the University of Washington in 2000. While I left the next year to begin medical school at the University of Michigan, I always hoped to return. After graduating from medical school, I went on to complete my Pediatric Medicine Residency at University of Chicago, and then returned to the University of Michigan for 6 years. While there, I completed my Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship and then a year of additional training in the care of children with heart failure, cardiomyopathies, heart transplants and cardiac critical care. I then spent two years as a pediatric cardiologist and cardiac intensivist at University of Michigan. I finally had the opportunity to return to the Pacific Northwest for good in 2015, when I joined the Heart Center at Seattle Children’s Hospital. I spent over 9 years at Seattle Children’s Hospital, caring for cardiology patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. I helped develop the comprehensive Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program at Seattle Children’s, and served as the program’s Medical Director throughout my tenure there.
In 2024, I left Seattle Children’s, along with my colleague Dr. Weldin, in order to open Salish Pediatric Cardiology. During my time in Seattle, I was struck by the great lengths patients and families often went to in order to access the cardiac care that they needed. I am passionate about this opportunity to provide children in Snohomish, Skagit, Island, and Whatcom counties with access to expert pediatric cardiology care closer to home, and in a friendly and accessible setting.
I enjoy caring for children of all ages with congenital or acquired heart disease. I have particular expertise in heart failure, cardiomyopathies, Fontan complications, heart transplants, and ventricular assist devices, and am an author of more than 50 peer reviewed papers in these areas. I have served in leadership roles in the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study (PHTS) and Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) and have been an invited speaker at national and international meetings. I continue to serve as an expert reviewer for research articles in the field of pediatric cardiology in numerous journals and I am a member of the editorial board of the journals Pediatric Cardiology and Frontiers in Pediatrics – Pediatric Cardiology Section.
When not at work, I love spending time with my wife and four children, ranging from ages 3 to 15. Between soccer and baseball games, dance classes and martial arts, they keep me busy! It was the natural beauty of the area that drew me to the Pacific Northwest in the first place, and I continue to enjoy hiking, camping, and bird watching. While I have no musical ability of my own, I love watching people who do, and enjoy concerts ranging from rock to country, bluegrass and folk.
